MediaTek to Bring Flagship Performance to Affordable Phones Soon

MediaTek is putting forth a lot of effort to compete with Qualcomm in the high-end chipset market. The Dimensity 8000, 8100, and 9000 are all set to come soon with flagship-level performance, while the D8000 and D8100 are intended at mid-range and high-end phones, respectively.

A Chinese tipster named Digital Chat Station has previously revealed a few details regarding the D8100, and he has done so again. The flagship-grade processor, he claims, will be built on TSMC’s 5nm technology and will support UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5 memory. There will be four Cortex A78 CPU cores running at 2.85GHz and four Cortex A55 CPU cores running at 2.0GHz.

The GPU will be a G510 MC6, according to the report, but some have predicted that it will be the G610 MC6.

Because of the GPU, the Dimensity 8100 will be on par with the Snapdragon 888/888+ in terms of overall performance. In the GFX Bench ES 3.0 Manhattan test, the processor achieves 170 frames per second, putting it on par with Qualcomm’s last-gen flagship SoC.

The D8100 is slated to debut in mid-range and high-end phones in 2022, as previously said. Although Digital Chat Station has announced that it will open in March of this year, no official confirmation has been given.
