Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus Do Not Have LTPO OLED Technology

Samsung previously indicated that both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus would offer variable refresh rate screens ranging from 10 to 120Hz, implying that the phones would use LTPO OLED technology. This, however, is not the case, according to a well-known display specialist.

Apart from the top-end Galaxy S22 Ultra, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) Ross Young claimed in a now-deleted tweet that no other model in the series uses LTPO OLED technology.

The refresh rate of the display can adjust between 10Hz and 120Hz depending on what is displayed on the screen thanks to LTPO. Although the technology helps to decrease excessive battery drainage, it comes at a higher cost of production than standard panels.

Samsung was unable to include the technology on the Galaxy S22 or S22 Plus without boosting the price of both handsets, for obvious reasons. These smartphones have a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz.

Samsung has reduced the display sizes of its smartphones, which means they have smaller batteries than last year’s models, lowering battery life.
